History
Aveline was born in Orlais, but her father was forced to flee the country. She was brought up hearing about the grand tails of knights and chevaliers, but became a bit disillusioned to them after her father slipped into disgrace and pushed all of his aspirations onto her. She was named after the very first female chevalier, but felt the weight being compared to the comely knight's tragic story a bit burdensome. Her father bought her service into King Cailan's army. In his service, she met Sir Wesley, and the two quickly fell in love and were wed.

After Logain's traitorous withdrawal from the field at Ostagar, and Callan's crushing defeat by the forces of the Blight, the couple fled to Lothering, but were met with another wave of darkspawn. Wesley was corrupted by the blight, and she was forced to kill him herself to keep him from becoming one of the cursed monsters. She fled  with the Hawke family, and they made for the city of Kirkwall.

She joined the City Guard, and with Hawke's not so discreet help, sought to keep the city rife with turmoil from boiling over. She climbed the ranks in the guard quickly, and eventually was made Captain. She helped Hawke out when she needed, even if it meant looking the other way on occasion. In game it is possible for her to marry Donnic, one of the guards under her command, but I think I will deviate from that, saying that she never got the guts to ask him. I like that it leaves her open for more different kinds of CR than if they were together, and let's be honest, I really REALLY want a "Kiss the Girl" moment to happen at some point.

Everything went to shit as soon as Anders blew up the Chantry and caused a civil war. Conflict between the Templars and Mages came to a head, and everything went to pot. She was forced to flee the city for a time, but now she is back, and determined to keep the city together this time. She is the only one in their party to return with the intention to stay and fix things, and while she shoulders the burden, she feels very much alone without the help of her friends. Hawke's disappearance caused her more than a little concern, but she will strive to keep order as long as she has strength to. She has been chosen to act as the official emissary of Kirkwall, and has been tasked with gaining aid from the Inquisition.

Personality

Aveline is always the type of person to roll up her sleeves and get things done. She can be seen as having a hard head, or a prickly exterior, but she simply doesn't have time or inclination to bow and scrape. She is a battering ram of purpose and order. She is strong both physically and mentally, and has a mind for tactics. She is unblinkingly loyal to those she respects, but respect is a two way street and must be earned. She doesn't have time for those who won't fight for themselves.

She exudes strength and determination, and she is very much sure of herself. She is protective of those she cares about, and isn't one to give up on another person easily. She's one to solve problems by bludgeoning them head on, rather than being more taciturn. She is blunt, direct, and would never ask anyone else to do anything she would not also be willing to do herself. She is a woman of action, but she's not prone to acting haphazardly. She is critical, thoughtful, and knows that throwing some people around is a good way to get things done. She would never admit to having a romantic bone in her body, but underneath her multiple layers of emotional armor she is quite sentimental.

She believes in strength in character above all things, and isn't one to let someone's race determine how she feels about people. She does have some lingering apprehension towards mages, but she has multiple times tried to extend an olive branch. She is responsible for the safety of all the citizens in Kirkwall, mages included. After the explosion of the Chantry, the city guard is the only policing force in Kirkwall. She often pulls recruits from every walk of life, hoping the citizens will see themselves in those who seek to keep order, rather than oppressors.


Opinions & Affiliations

Her first and only affiliation is that of the City of Kirkwall. She will do what she feels best to establish order and make Kirkwall stable again. The Viscount has put her name forward as an emissary for Krikwall, trying to gain support from the Inquisition with the mounting tensions with their surrounding countries and also help with restoration efforts. She isn't known much for her strengths in negotiation, but at the moment they don't have many they can turn to, and they know she can be trusted to put the needs of the people above all else. Whatever happens with the Mages and Templars is out of her hands now. There are people higher up the food chain who worry about that. Her duty is to the people of the city, and she will do whatever she can to get them the help they need.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Her greatest strength is her, well strength. She is has a strong body, strong character, strong mind, and strong will. But, with that strength, she has a hard time leaning on others. She isn't very forthcoming with her emotions, but she cares about this very deeply. She often has blinders on to everything out side of what needs doing at that moment, unless someone equally strong comes around to turn her head.

Inventory

Aveline has her standard issue Captain of the Gard armor, her sword, Wesley's shield, and whatever small possessions she has saved up over the years.

Motivation

She has only ever wanted to make Kirkwall a city where people can feel safe and happy, which is hard because it's a den for corruption and it's ruling systems are built on backs of those with the least power. She hopes she can gain support for them, and give them a stable home finally. Her motivations are the same as when she was in the guard, just with slightly more ass kissing. Which, will be a challenge for her.
